It felt like we waited all summer. Well, we did. In fact, we waited until late October to get the call we had been planning for. And, as often happens, everything happened at once. The next 3 weeks were a whirlwind of taking timber, dirt, stones & a whole lot of wire and steel to create pasture fields and cattle yards. These were also the 3 weeks that included the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and Agribition and we hosted guests, travelled to TO and made the trip west. The end result is what we have been aiming for and a significant investment in transitioning our farm from dairy farming to beef farming. The pasture fields are at rest now, waiting for the warmth and moisture of spring in Ontario. The cattle yards have most of the windbreaks set up and will be ready to go within a month.

Timber, dirt and stones are basic elements of nature that have been used to form structures for eons. Today, all kinds of technology and state of the art equipment gets used to create structures. But, it is still those basic elements that create the soundness for the years to come. And in the case of fence and yard building, the addition of a whole lot of wire and steel provide the strength in the structure so it can serve it's purpose.

We are looking forward to seeing our Speckle Park cattle grazing on the pastures from spring to fall. And when winter weather keeps them a little closer to the barn, then they have some new yards to enjoy.

Happy to say - well worth the wait!
